Censorship & Visual Storytelling

"When I'm good I'm very, very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better."

-- Actress Mae West

My experience in visual storytelling enlightened me to the fact that it was censorship that stunted the growth of visual storytelling in America. Controls set in place by leaders who decided to listen to extremists demanding restrictions to "protect their children" from the immoral and greedy. These extremists include "parents," who obviously don't understand that this is part of the responsibility of being a parent or "parenting," and their children are something more than an accessory, like the BMW or Coach Handbag.

"Okay, all you visual storytellers out there...this is a must-have book for your collection. For any artist who wishes to pursue a career in animation, live-action film, games or comics, Tony Caputo's Visual Storytelling is a first-rate introduction. Beginners and seasoned pros alike will find valuable advice in this profusely Meinert Hansen, CGCHANNEL.COM

The author makes clear, the story guides images, and images can enhance the story, but putting the two together effectively is an art. Those wanting to understand that art better are well served by this book.
- Foreword Magazine

"Grade: A  -- Caputo simply shows the reader what the hell is going on. It is masterful in the simplicity and masterful in the lessons taught. If you are a hopeful creative talent, writer or illustrator this work is a must buy."
Review from Alex Ness at
Popthought.com

"Caputo has put together a treasure trove of storytelling history, philosophy and theory, where readers, writers, artists and film makers can explore lighting, color, planning, pacing, theory and so much more. In a nutshell, Visual Storytelling is loaded. I'm sure you'll find it at the top of your own keep file. Or, better yet, by your side as you bring your stories to their ultimate fruition. I can only imagine where my writing career would be today if I had had this book fifteen years ago."

More About The Book...

Visual media artists such as film and video storyboarders, 3D animators, comic book artists, and creators of interactive games must express purely with pictures everything that the writer can't communicate in words. As a result, truly effective visual storytelling must be compelling, dynamic and have the appearance of reality. In Visual Storytelling: The Art & Technique, veteran publisher, artist and writer Tony Caputo demonstrates everything the aspiring visual media artist needs to know in order to master sequential art. Artists will discover, by cross-pollinating comics, film, animation and interactive games, through clear illustrations and pictures, each stage of the production process.
